Cultures of Accountability – Free School with Decolonize this Place and Free University NYC

Decolonize This Place and Free University-NYC invite you to collaborate on a Saturday, October 27th, event -- Cultures of Accountability -- to address sexualized violence in our communities, and to deepen how NYC movement spaces incorporate and center this struggle in the day-to-day work we do. We know that indigenous, Black, immigrant, disabled and trans communities have forms of infrastructure to confront, heal, and prevent sexualized violence in New York and elsewhere. We wish to lift up, strengthen, and multiply these efforts.

“Cultures of accountability” span and connect interpersonal and structural relations for our collective liberation. We want to build upon how we communicate, understand, and care for each other within our collective spaces and ourselves, while organizing against and inside a patriarchal (and white supremacist, capitalist, ableist, imperialist, etc.) society. We must train ourselves to see and organize against normalized violences, alongside structural and state violences, faced especially by Indigenous and Black people, immigrant communities, disabled bodies and femmes of color.

Demystifying Healing Justice | Critical Ethnic Studies Association Conference

In this geopolitical climate, is there a path that integrates the everyday rituals of resistance and the spiritual? If there isn’t a way, who will lay out that path for the next seven generations to follow? How can we walk with integrity in the face of an uncertain future? In this discussion, collaborators will explore the intersections of healing and social justice with the intention of pooling resources and sharing sacred space.

Roots in a Modern Time | Distrtic 3 PB Fest with Friends of the Highline

In the midst of the our hyperconnected, technology driven culture, we can often feel disconnected. Cut off from ourselves, our people, the Earth and all of her gifts. What does it mean for us to get back to the root? What does developing a filtration system look like in the time of filtered pictures and altered experiences? Through exploring these questions with art and herbs, collaborators will discern how to grow Roots in a Modern Time so that they can cultivate their own self-care practices that nourish them for the long haul.  Participants will dive into this theme through custom journaling prompts, sharing knowledge on herbal medicine, and art therapy. Conjured by @verosgotthejuice and @earthmother.medicine

Us, Too/Nosotrxs, También

#MeToo recently propped up into the spotlight and the numerous accounts of folks outing their abusers whether in Hollywood or in our very own communities, a lot of abusive and triggering anti-femme, patriarchal rhetoric has been clogging our spaces both online and offline. How can we ensure and maintain critical self-preservation in these times? How can we lift one another up? How can we build community through transformative justice?

Alchemist's Cypher: Healing Through Writing II

Welcome to the Alchemist’s Cypher - Healing Through Writing II   --- Join us on Friday, December 1st to step into the second edition of this gathering, aka “cypher,” in which we intentionally journal and unearth stories that no longer serve us. Through this guided practice, we will shed the narratives that we have created for ourselves to make way to spell out the lives that we intend to lead.   This cypher will be more explicitly aligned with the astrological happenings of the present moment. In particular, we'll be engaging with our inner child and Chiron, the Wounded Healer in the midst of Sagittarius season. Everyone will also walk away from the gathering with a cocreated astrological birth chart by Veronica (@verosgotthejuice).   Collaborators are asked to bring a journal, something to write with, and anything that they would like to add to the community altar.   Reserve your spot here !
